Post This? This? This? Game - this and that
This is for smaller groups of 3 to 5 people, ages 6 and up

Materials: a set of flashcards with 2 of each object

1. Review the vocabulary and be sure everyone is somewhat strong in it.

2. Put all the cards face down in the middle of the group.

3. Each person takes an equal amount of cards, memorizes what they have and lays them face down in front of them. **the students must also remember where each one is because once the game starts they are not allowed to look at their cards.

Draw all the cards. If you have an odd number of cards just deal them out and kids usually don't complain about having more or less.

4. The object of the game is to get a pair of the same cards. If upon drawing a student has a matching pair, they keep the pair.

5. The first person 'A' can ask anyone in the group 'B', "What's that?"

6. 'B' is not sure which card 'A' is talking about so 'B' will point to each card one by one and ask "This?" or "This one?" until 'A' finally says, "Yes." to one of the cards.

7. When 'A' says yes to one of the cards, 'B' can look at the card and answer, "This is a bear."

8. If 'A' has a bear 'A' can attempt to find it umungst his cards. 'A' may turn over one card from the cards in front of him. If it's the bear 'A' get both cards and play continues with the next person 'C.' If it's something else, both cards get turned back over and play continues with the next person 'C.'

Keep playing until all the cards are paired up and then count the number of pairs to determine the winner.

This can be played with large classes but I would use a sample group for everyone to huddle around and watch for one round. Then the students can break up into groups and play on their own.

Happy teaching,
Mark
