Post subject:  the Wh-dice Game: practice wh-questions

A review game for making questions with wh-words

You need a game board of the snakes and ladder genra or you can just layout some MES-flashcards in a long gameboard fashion. You'll need 2 dice preferably different colors (say red and white,) and markers for each student or team.

The red dice is the wh-di and the white di is the motion-di.

You can just assign a wh-word to numbers and when it comes up the students must use that word in a question to another student

So if the student rolls 3-2, they would make a question with why and move ahead 2 spaces.

You can double up if your students don't know that many wh-words, for example: 1 and 4 are what, 2 and 5 are where, 3 and 6 are which

If you use flash cards to make the game board, you can practice vocabulary at the same time. Have the students say the words as they move or land on the items. There is no penalty for forgetting. They just need to be sure and ask if they don't remember a word.

(Adults will get into this game as well.)
