One of my classes came across the word "row", as in "to fight, argue, or disagree". The students weren't sure of the pronunciation. It's fun to make up a silly rhyme on the spot. You can adjust your poem to fit their level. Secondly, because it works well, I slipped in one key word from their own language, which makes remembering easier. Here are two examples, (although beginners usually wouldn't encounter "row". "Frau" rhymes, and in this context means wife.) for beginners: The cow had a row with a sow who didn't want to be his Frau You can snazz it up any way you'd like: The cow had a row with a sow who balked at becoming his Frau Bowed the cow to the sow "Please marry me now." Said the sow: "Go marry your plow!" Slipping in that one German word makes it so much easier for them to remember the pronunciation. (we topped it off by making a "cow and sow having a row" flashcard from Mark's collection. Came out pretty good. OR pretty goofy. |
