Post High level students, but low level speaking skills. Ideas?
I just began tutoring a motivated third grader who is a high level English learning, except for her speaking skills. She is able to read and write at a 2nd grade level(US). She is able to understand simple instructions.

I chose a Level 1 EFL course book to help build her speaking confidence. The session I had with her went well. She likes the materials, activities and the games (many from MES-English).

I just would like to hear your ideas, suggestions, problems, etc. with teaching high level English learners that have low level speaking skills.

Thanks. :)

Get her head looking up at you and teach her how to talk about herself and her life.

(What were you doing at __:__?) ** Ask**

I was____, at/in/on____, at/in/on_____ with _____ **Write on board**

as in...

I was (watching T.V.) on (the floor)with (my brother).

I was (shopping) at (PARCO) in (Hiroshima) with (my Mother)

Go through her daily routine and teach her the vocabulary she needs to communicate about herself, her schedule, and the people around her.

This is all past tense but it's a good way to get started
