|Post subject:||Trying Archie comics with teens|
I used to love my Archie comics when I was younger and I thought I'd order a Collectors Set and try to get my teens (12 up to 15) reading them.
This might get them more motivated to learn those verbs in the simple
past and other tenses!!
I hope it works...the comics themselves don't cost much...it's the postage that's expensive!! If they don't read them...then I will.
Has anyone tried comics to get students reading English?
I'll give my 8 students a comic towards the end of the lesson and let them
read for about 10 mins. Enough to get them hooked so that they want to continue next week. I've tried I Love English magazines but those didn't really appeal to them.
Any ideas would be most welcome.

You might try a couple of samples before you go off and buy a whole set of Archie comic books...

Thanks Patrick, that's a great idea.
I'll still get some as I can pass them
on to other bi-lingual teens.

Getting the kids into English comics is a great idea. Also, when they've had a chance to do some reading and get a feel for the verb tenses, why not have them design a short comic strip of their own?
Could be interesting.

Well just to let you know that the teens aged from 13 to 15 loved the Archie comics that I printed up and want more.
I asked them to let me know if they needed my help but they guessed most of what they were reading which is also part of the learning process.
Some simple words (maybe) they didn't know or an expression (I'm worn out) but on the whole, they liked the characters and want to read more Archie comics!! So that's got to be positive.
I'll see if they want to draw their own....these Swiss students are not like Asian students and don't seem to have much imagination.
It's just not part of their culture, I guess??

I'm sure you already found this site, but rather than mailing them, you may want to download them, or buy them online, and colour print them.
Here is the Archie online site
There are also short form daily comics that you can print at:
www.archiecomics.com/pops_shop/dailycom ... comic.html
You can find many of your favourite characters sites and it won't cost the postage.

|Post subject:||Already have some!!|
I've already got my comics and the teens love them.
So it was worth the postage from the US.
I've got 13 comics so they have plenty to swap and lots of
reading to do.
I've also found my Richie Rich comics if they want to keep
As I've got 3 teenage groups...I can use the comics with all
3 groups...and they do like handling the real thing compared to
when I printed up pages for them.
Thanks anyway for your comments and the sites!!
