 Feb. 2007
Well, again it's hard to really put a dent into this place anymore, but that won't stop me from trying.
Here's what's new.
Flashcards www.mes-english.com/flashcards.php
School building flashcards
Places Around Town 2
Aussie Animals
Classroom objects 2
Subjects (long awaited, yet still no feedback)
Nationalities 2.5 sets
Flashcard Worksheets www.mes-english.com/worksheets/flashcards/
Nature 1
Places 1
School building
Weather
Shapes and Colors
Sports (2 sets: play and go)
Subjects
Coloring sheets: www.mes-english.com/coloring.php
Animals (38 different animals)
Misc.
I did add some St. Patrick's Day award certificates (7 styles) over at www.123certificates.com That's probably all I will do for that this year. They are great rewards for St. Patrick's Day lessons and games. Check them out. You can find a direct link in the holidays section with the St. Patrick's Day materials. www.mes-english.com/flashcards/holidays.php
There may be some other things here and there as well.
Happy teaching,
Mark

Mark,
I like your ideas of having textbooks to teach subjects!
For the most part I think you have done a fantastic job.
Just a few comments for those who will use them with
elementary children.
I think that students in Japan don't learn square roots or
chemistry H2O until at least junior high. Perhaps
a simpler representation would make it clearer to
younger students.
Also for Japanese and Spanish and French, students
may mix this for a social studies class.
HOwever, I haven't actually used them in class so I can't say
for sure whether any of these differences cause confusion.
my two cents

Yay! Beg and ye shall receive.
I had a feeling that the lack of response on the subjects was because people weren't that excited about them.
I will admit, they could be better, but I like them though They're much, much better than the old ones, IMO. Maybe that's why I like them.
In the end people might like them. I have a reason for all of the foreign languages. I use them to practice the present perfect and I have a game coming together that will use them.
"I have studied English for 3 years."
"How long have you studied French?"
They are designed for the teacher to use the large flashcards for introduction. The large flashcards are different from the handout and small cards. They have a lot more to the picture that will help younger students associate the book to the subject. If they see the large flashcard then they shouldn't be confused.

Aha, I see what you are saying. The large flashcards are much clearer. I think they are fantastic. They are the best subject cards I've seen yet! My guess is that subjects in general are harder to teach. At least for Japanese students there are fewer cognates and the words are hard for students to remember. When I do teach subjects though, I will definitely use your cards!
Great job!

Hi, Mark
Splendid job, as you usually do. The new topics are great and I found the nationatities set very funny. I wonder if you could get a Portuguese 3D in your future work; it would be great.
I also find your awards splendid, but I can't use them, they won't print all right; may be it's my fault.
I thought you could use the same pictures and make a kind of bookmarks, mainly with pictures related with some special days. I frequently offer many to my students and they are always asking for more.
Bye, have a nice week
Olinda

hey Mark!
Love the school subject flashcards, I could have used them a few months ago:D Very Simple to see that the subjects are and great pictures.
Am no longer teaching English in Japan, but hope to be able to use your site back here in Canada!

I added a large 3D Portuguese flashcard to the site.
www.mes-english.com/flashcards/files/na ... _flash.pdf
You can create a medium flashcard by following the direction in this thread
http://www.mes-english.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28
Just choose 4x4 as your print setting.

Hello, Mark, I've found your new flash card with the Portuguese nationality. It was very nice nice of you; it is a kind of present for me, so I have to say thank you. You are a nice fellow and you have been helping me a lot, but more than that, you have been a kind of a teacher. Whenever I see your work I discover new things I can do, new ways of doing things, so I have to say... thank you, many, many thanks.
