Warm-up game needed!!

one of the warm up i do to this kind of class is by using song...

1. give ss the pict of animal, 1 st is 1 pict
2.if u have 10 ss, then creat 3kinds of different pict
3.ask them not to show their pict, top secret
4. ask them to stand up all ans produce the voice showing how the animal in their pict producing it
5. they will find the friends with the same sound producsing and that their group!


so u can use this group formation to the next activity...i bet it is fun and can break the ice!

A vocabulary warm up activity I do with my kids is called:

I spy with my little eye something beginning with B........

The idea of this activity is for the teacher to think of an object in the room which everyone can see and have the students guess what it is. Asking questions, such as:

Is it a Ball? No, it isn't
Is it a Book? Yes it is.

Once you've shown the students how it works you can have them think of an object for the other class members to guess.

Post Review Game
When I want to review vocabulary or simple structures, like routines, I play word tennis. I usually divide the class in two groups, but you can also do it with four, five or even couple of students, depending on how much vocabulary you want to review. The students are all standing up.

I name a category and each group has to say a word or phrase, and they may not repeat what others have said. When they run out of words or phrases, i name a new category.

Sometimes I time them, and if they do not answer in less than three seconds (time can vary according to the level of the class and their age) they lose. When a team loses, they have to sit down.

The last group still standing up wins the game.

Post Warm-Up Games for Language Teachers!
I found this Warm-Up Game interesting that can help the teacher and the students Break-The-Ice.

Beginning at one end of the classroom, have the first student introduce herself. The next student then introduces himself as well as the previous student. The third student introduces herself as well as the two previous students, and so on through the classroom. Once everyone has been introduced, the teacher then introduces him/herself and goes through the entire classroom naming all of the students.

Try these:
'Bring Me' - bring me ___ (better if it's something funny like smelly sock)
'Truth & lie' (something easy, like I love snakes but I'm afraid of frogs)
or Have them say a word that starts with letter _.

Just be creative & always smile. It'll definitely help them loosen up. Even better if you have prizes for active students. All the best!

Post Music warm-up activity
I created a music warm-up activity on my site that they might enjoy. I've done 5 of them, but if anyone uses them and wants me to make more, just email me and let me know. Here's the link to the warm-up songs:

This is how I use it: As the students are coming in, I play the song. When the song is playing, they know to sit down and start answering the 3 questions that are shown on the board. (Usually I just pull up the website and show it on the board using the projector) I play it as many times as needed (usually ~2 or 3 times) so that they have time to get settled into their seats and finish answering the questions.

It's a great way to catch their attention right away, especially with middle and high school students.

I hope that it can be of use to other teachers, too!
