 The Language Resource Room
Hey Mark,
I had a question about the area mentioned in the subject line above. After a certain time, if you don't have anyone who rates your site, is it automatically erased?
I was there one day, then erased the next. hhhmmm....

Yeah, you get auto-pruned if you haven't sent any hits to 'the Language Resources Room' in any 60 day period.
Also, there are 45 sites currently involved with 'the Language Resources Room' but only 40 get listed. I just haven't had the time to add a third page.

No worries!
I never received any hits from that page anyways. I was just wondering...

Well, if you participate, it's provides support for all of the sites. It's kind of like a mall of sites. Sites see 2-5x the traffic they send in. It depends a lot on what people might be hunting for that day.
There are 400-600 uniques in and out of there daily and it's crawled pretty heavily by SE bots, so it's not a bad deal. Also, the main page is PR5 and the second page PR4 so having a link in there is good for the SE. But you have to play ball
I'm on the losing end of the deal. I provide the bulk of the traffic but I believe the sites I let join are strong content sites worth supporting. No job sites. No portals. No links to more links ...

Okay, maybe I didn't do as much research as I should have when I setup in that area. It sounds like I need to do something other than post in there. I will wait to see if a spot opens up and snag it again and try and do something with it.
When I could see my site still, I was wondering why I always had 0 people looking my site or rating it. I guess I was doing something wrong.

Nice site Patrick. Some great stuff there for those of us outside Japan too.
But I didn't see a link back to the Language Resources page.
What does PR4 / PR5 mean?

PR = page rank (0-10)
Page rank is a system Google has designed that ranks the relative importance/popularity of a site. It's a relatively real number you can look to and see what Google thinks of a site and it reflects a bit the search results for that site. The more important and relavent the information is on your site, the higher you appear in search results, leading to higher PR.
So, a page with high PR is seen as important and a link from a high PR site, an important site, to your site means your site must also be of some importance. So, it works as credentials for your site in search.
Does that make sense?

Mark recently schooled me on the ways of the Language Resources page.
I didn't know I was supposed to provide a link back. I'm new to this whole website thing...
