 the Concordia advertisement - thoughts?
I started running the Concordia University promotion again. It will appear once every 30 days (if you are using the same computer.)
You have probably seen it by now, it's on a number of teacher websites these days. So what do you think? Is this kind of advertisement overly annoying?

I find it a bit annoying, and this kind of browser takeover ad negatively affects my perception of a website's legitimacy, like I'm visiting one of those ad-riddled lyrics sites or something, but ya gotta pay the bills somehow.

Thanks for the honest feedback.
I don't like it either. I ran it for a month back in Jan. and felt it may have been adversely affecting site performance. The advertisers now have a better code, but I still feel a little icky about running it.
It covers the running costs of the site, so that's good but I'd rather just pay myself if it's going to drag the site's reputation down.
How do others feel about it?

I can't be much help on this. I run an adblocker so I don't even see it. So from that point of view it doesn't bother me at all.

What? Com'mon, you're killing me! white list me!
Anyway, that's pretty interesting that your ad blocker can also block this type of advertisement.
It also must make most websites look pretty funny.

Hey Mark long time no type to. The ad is definitly irritating. I was away from the site for a while and when I came back...... BAM! a pop up. I thought you were hacked for a sec. Then I realized it was an advert. Sorry I know that it covers the cost of running a beaut site like this for us, thank you Mark, but well I guess if you need it we can all put up with it.

Well, it's a little discouraging to hear echos of my fears, but it's good to know the truth. I sometimes feel that I'm too critical, but my first instinct may have been right with this one.
I've agreed to run the campaign for a month. I also agreed to do it partly to help out the company that's running as middleman. They are an advertisement organization for educational websites and this is their biggest contract. They were needing more websites or something like that and I thought it best to keep the doors open with them.
As it stands, the advertisement should be gone in June.
This side of running a website is so frustrating ...

I haven't seen the ad so am not sure what you are talking about.
Maybe the computers i am accessing from have ad blockers. Most probably have some kind of security/filter in place as they are school computers. Not sure how this affects these kind of things.
Sorry i can't be of much help,
