Customizing traditional games
I've found that many traditional games are a good basis for language teaching. Pick up what the children love doing and introduce a language element into it!
For example:
For a small group of young children, build an actual model town from blocks, then have them write 'Road signs' to help a foreigner get around.
These can include 'Go forward', 'Turn left', 'Turn right', 'Go back', 'Stop'
and various arrow signs directing the foreigner to the 'Centre', 'Post Office', 'Tourist information' and various landmarks that the children have chosen to put up. My daughter had a 'Pig Monument' in the city centre and had lots of laughs when our 'visitor' kept inquiring about the statue of the famous pig!
