Mark's note: I use these cards to introduce the target language:

  • You can't ....
  • Can I ... ?

for permission.  You could also use 'may not' and 'may.'  Again, these cards and vocabulary are very clear and no grammar explanation should be necessary.

Mark's note: I use these cards to discuss in the following target language:

  • There is/are ...
  • You can ...
  • You can't ....
  • You have to ...

I also use them to introduce the word 'mean.'

  • "What does this sign mean?"
  • "It means there are falling rocks ahead, maybe.  I can't drive fast. I have to slow down and be careful."
